May (2008) Fishing at
last is starting to improve. Good fishing on the Wolf Rock, with Pollock
to 13lbs some small Coal Fish to 3lbs, and the odd Ling to 16lbs. I’ve had
a couple of trips on the Sands with Turbot to 5lbs, and lots of Lesser
Spotted Dog Fish, also a Bullhuss which was 13lbs. Red and Tub Gurnard are
now showing. The weather hasn’t been very kind and had a rough
trip over to St. Mary’s with the Waltham Abbey Fishing Club. Some good
Pollock on the way to 12lbs. Two days fishing around the islands, but again the
wind did not help. We had plenty of Pollock and some good looking Wrasse.
Drifting too quickly with the wind made it hard to find some Turbot and
Place, being that we could not hold bottom. We worked hard on the second
day but could only locate Pollock, even the Mackerel were scares, we
decided the best bet would be sitting in the bar and having a drink. The third day was allot better with the wind dyeing
away so we managed to get to all the places that I indented to fish, we
had Ling plenty of Pollock and Coal Fish, some decent fish were lost wreck
fishing on the way home. Many thanks to John and the boys for three very
enjoyable days and hope to see you next year.
